Spiky Boy

There were three friends living in a small village under the cursed mountains. The first one was Long Sam and he lived in a hollowed out tree. Little Sally was occupying an old cask nearby.

And Boy lived in a house made of clay. Sam and Sally took care of the garden and Boy hunted in the forest. They had everything they needed and they were happy together.

One day, Sam was repairing the roof on his hollow tree and he noticed that a strong wind is starting to blow from the cursed mountains. He shouted, “Everybody hide! There is a wind coming from the mountains and that is never a good sign.”

And he crawled into the tree. Little Sally was pulling out the weed at the time. She quickly threw away the hoe and ran to hide in her cask.

Boy was on the hunt in the forest and he did not hear Sam’s shouting. When the wind caught up with him, Boy headed home quickly but it was too late. The wind from the cursed mountains was full of sadness.

And when Boy made it to his clay house, the sadness had already embraced him.

The wind did stop in the evening, but Boy was still sad. It lasted for five more days and Sally with Sam were worried about him.

Boy was saddened even more when he saw how his friends are troubled because of him. He wished that he could drive them away so they could not see his sadness.

Boy woke up the next day to find out that his body is covered with spikes. The spikes had sprout even on his clay house.

Sally and Sam started to be afraid that the Boy’s spikes could hurt them. They were avoiding him and did not visit him anymore.

The Boy thought that at least they would stop worrying about him. But then he saw through the window that they were hugging each other and crying.

Boy set to the cursed mountains to get an advice from the dark sorcerer. He came to his palace in the extinct volcano and told him, “Sorcerer, I can not look at how my friends are troubled because of me. Can you help me?” Sorcerer nodded, pulled out a green bottle from a dusty shelf and gave it to Boy.

“This is a potion of oblivion. Drink from it every morning and you shall not see your friends worried anymore. Come back to me when you finish the bottle and I will prepare you another one.” Boy set of back home, carrying the bottle with him.

Boy drank from the bottle in the morning and he did not see Sally and Sam troubled anymore. He even forgot that there were some Sally and Sam. But they were still there.

Boy was wandering without a purpose around the village and he was wounding Sally and Sam with his spikes and he tore to shreds everything he walked by.

Boy set out to sorcerer for another potion every time it ran out.

But one day he did not find sorcerer in his palace, so he went home empty handed. Boy woke up without the potion of oblivion the next day.

Only now he saw all that he has done. Everything in his village was torn by his spikes and Sally with Sam were desperate. Boy broke off all his spikes despite it hurt him a lot. He put the spikes into a box.

He grabbed all his courage and he went to apologize to his friends.

First he came to Sam. “Sam I am sorry that I destroyed what I could and I’ve hurt you and Sally.”

Sam looked up to him, his face brightened and he said, “None of it hurt me more like you forgot about us. I am glad to have you back.”

Next, Boy went to Sally. “I am sorry, Sally. I was full of sadness and I know that it was troubling you and Sam.”

Sally just shook her head and said, “I was most troubled because you stopped to see that me and Sam were there for you.”

Boy’s sadness dissolved. He went home and he opened the box with the spikes. He threaded the spikes onto a thread and put them around his neck, so he could never forget.
